WHY DO PEOPLE DO BODY AND BREATHWORK?
Each person has their own reasons to do body and breathwork, but usually my clients would like to have a better relationship with themselves and others, and a richer experience of life. They may be aware that they are holding emotions in their bodies that they cannot access, which is contributing to stagnation, frustration or dissatisfaction in their lives. Whatever the particular circumstances, they are ready to make changes.
By breathing into the body and connecting with the energy of the heart, we become more present to ourselves, changing the way in which we show up in our lives.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The body and breathwork sessions can be taken as standalone sessions. It is best experienced as part of a process. This will be determined by you and how deep into the work you would like to go. There are energetic points all over the body, some of which will hold more emotional content than others, depending on the individual. The body has its own wisdom about how quickly this comes to the surface. For people who are already very close to their emotions, less may be more, whereas for someone who has shut their emotions away they may benefit from more regular sessions in order to work through the layers of protection.
As the layers of defence are worked through, you may come into contact with strong feelings that you are not normally used to spending time with, and this can feel very intense.
Depending on what comes up, I may suggest that you seek the support of a counsellor or psychotherapist to support the process. If you book a package, you can also mix and match between body and breathwork sessions and breathwork massage.
WILL THIS WORK MAKE ME FEEL EMOTIONAL?
It is likely that we will touch into aspects of your emotional life that have been unconsciously driving your behaviour, and the work can intensify these feelings for a time.
IS BODYWORK PAINFUL?
The goal of the work is not to cause pain, but is not uncommon to feel tenderness, as physical and emotional pain are often intertwined. The beauty of this work is that pain and tenderness usually subside once they have been met by the breath.
Clients who are experiencing chronic pain can sometimes find relief through this work. The natural instinct where pain is concerned is to move away from it, but if we can come closer and breathe towards it we can create expansion and space in the body.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S THE RIGHT TIME TO DO THIS?
The timing of this work is important. It can be helpful to ask yourself whether you feel ready to do this right now, as there is the possibility that the work may intensify your emotional experiences.
If you are working with a therapist it would be important to discuss this with them first.
If you are in a state of crisis or feeling flooded with emotions, I would recommend that you seek the help of a counsellor or psychotherapist in the first instance.
It is also important to consider what access you have to support in your life: friends, family, therapists, spiritual/religious or support groups, for example.

IS THIS WORK TRAUMA-INFORMED?
Yes. I have a background of coaching people with mental health difficulties, which has included receiving training and building knowledge through experience. I have also been through my own long term psychotherapeutic healing process and bodywork training, in tandem with exploring many different healing modalities over the past 20 years.
I continue to support my work by taking on regular continuous professional development courses.
I take care to work within the limits of my training, and if I believe my clients’ needs fall outside the scope of what I offer, I will recommend that they seek further help elsewhere.
IS BODY AND BREATHWORK SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?
The work has an effect of opening up the emotions, so for some people this work may be too much. This modality may not be appropriate if you have a diagnosed mental illness, you have experienced a psychotic episode, or you are regularly flooded with strong emotions and feel overcome by them. You may prefer to explore my breathwork massage sessions or Life Purpose Coaching instead.
WHAT TYPE OF BREATH DOES THIS WORK USE?
This work uses inhalation and exhalation through the mouth. The reason for this is that it is a “letting go” breath. It is less controlled than nasal breathing, and it encourages a direct encounter with inner emotional states.
HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?
Please wear comfy clothes and bring a bottle of water with you, and be ready to play an active role in the session. One thing that sets this work apart from some other therapies is that is a collaboration, rather than a treatment to received. You will need to be willing to breathe into your body!
IS THE WORK IN-PERSON OR ONLINE?
The body and breathwork takes place at Clinic 124, Whitstable, Kent. Life Purpose work can be done online via Zoom or in-person at Clinic 124, and some aspects of the breathwork can be used during these sessions.
CAN IT BE DONE IN GROUPS?
Yes. I collaborate with other practitioners to offer workshops in Whitstable, Kent. These are usually available once a month.
During the workshops, participants are partnered together intuitively. One person is on the table, and the other supports their partner by placing a hand on their shoulder while the practitioners move from table to table.
Although it might seem that the partners are taking turns to receive the work, in fact, powerful emotional shifts are possible from either position.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?
I offer 60 minute sessions that can be booked individually, and also packages of sessions. You can find all the details of my pricing on the Services page.
WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
Sessions that are cancelled less than 24 hours beforehand are non-refundable. You are most welcome to sign up for a free discovery call where we can spend 15 minutes together to ask questions so you can decide whether you would like to book in for a session.
